**About the Opportunity**
We are keen to hear from senior development professionals with a strong track record in providing strategic leadership and support to adviser‑led investments in small island and fragile contexts. The Program Director will play a critical role in ensuring donor‑funded investments deliver their intended economic governance outcomes across small Pacific Island states, including countries such as Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, through strong strategic leadership, adaptive management, and a focus on continuous learning and improvement.
The role provides overall leadership and stewardship across a cohort of Advisers working collectively towards shared objectives. The Program Director will work closely with government counterparts particularly Ministries and central agencies as well as Australian Government representatives, development partners, and in‑country and remote personnel. A strong understanding of how economic and public financial management systems operate in small island administrations, including the realities of capacity constraints, overlapping roles, and relationship‑based decision‑making, is critical to success in this role.

**About You**
This opportunity is suited to a senior development with extensive experience leading people and supporting delivery in complex international development contexts. You will be a strong people leader, approachable, empathetic, and resilient with a proven ability to provide mentoring, professional support, and pastoral care to Advisers working in demanding environments, often away from their usual support networks. This role will require significant in country presence and the ability to mobilize to partner country reflecting the importance of close on the ground engagement to build strong and trusted relations and support effective program delivery.
**You will bring excellent relationship‑management and strategic‑thinking skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with Pacific government counterparts and partner stakeholders. Strong communication and analytical capabilities are essential, including the ability to produce high‑quality reports, briefs, and strategic advice. Desirable experience includes work in economic governance, public financial management, or economics; leading or designing adviser‑based donor investments in the Pacific; and living and working in small island or low‑capacity settings with an understanding of government systems and decision‑making processes.**
